One Month and Then One Month

One month away.  And then, one month in one of the world's most beautiful places - Paris, France.  A promise I made to myself and family when it looked like my life was growing short during my dance with cancer in 2021.  I said that if I could survive that ordeal, we'd spend a month in Paris.  I'm glad to pay up and can hardly contain my excitement over our pending departure.

The game plan is to journey there with friends, assorted relatives, and family, dividing the time up into four 1-week increments.  Our friend Connie is joining us for the first week, then our son Jeff with wife Leigh and nephew Ray Creamer and friend Brenda.  Daughter Jenny and husband Dave, with granddaughters Ava and Gigi from the UK come in week 3, and we close out the month with son Aaron, wife Melissa and granddaughter Chloe.  It'll be a whirlwind for sure.

Right now we're consumed with ingesting as much information as possible to try to narrow down what we'll see and when.  30 days sounds like a long time to go somewhere but there are SO MANY options of what to do in Paris and surrounding environs that it actually makes it a difficult choice.  I've gone ahead and reserved some things that require lead times and tickets, but also leaving plenty of open time to simply wander around.

I always enjoy doing these blogs while we're away to keep myself informed of what we did when, if for no other purpose.  But we've never traveled more than a couple weeks so I'm unsure at this point whether or not our many avid readers (ha!) will see one every day as I'm accustomed to providing.  But I'll do my best to keep you informed of what we're doing, where we're going, and who we're with.

    Ooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh. A month in Paris sounds perfect. You'll BARELY have enough to do major site-seeing and also kick back. Enjoy each minute. We'll be waiting for your reports. XOXO

I am reminded of that old saying from WWI about the doughboys seeing Paris and never wanting to go home.  We're probably not quite there yet as our arrival was, first, uneventful and, then, eventful. We went from Columbus to Boston uneventfully, and the first two hours of our journey to Paris were uneventful as well.  About two hours in, I was sleeping relatively soundly (thanks to the accoutrements of Delta One class and its lie-flat bed) when I heard a ping and an announcement of "If there are any certified medical personnel on board, please ring your call button!".  My life partner Cheryl had her call button ringing before the announcement was completed. My Final Thoughts on the Trip of a Lifetime

We left Paris on Saturday morning, nearly 3 hours late, and missed our afternoon connection which would've put us in around 5:30 p.m.  Instead, we're toughing it out in the Delta Sky Club (one of the perks of our ticket class), and I have a chance to write my final thoughts on our trip of a lifetime.  I asked Cheryl what she wanted me to include and she said that, at first, she wasn't too keen on a month away but that time with family and all the wonderful things we saw were priceless.  I agree. And what of my thoughts to add on our 30 days in Paris?  C’est magnifique!   I’m glad we had the extended time because there was a lot to see and (mostly) I (and occasionally Cheryl) felt our age some times and took things easy.   But, geez, when we did see things, we saw a lot of things.
